Just one comment, I find it hard to believe that a girl, or anyone can be killed by a canal. I would believe she could be killed by a car, or a person, but not by a canal. She might have been killed when she fell into the canal, or when she bumped her head and fell into the canal, or when she fell into the canal and did not know how to swim.
It is hard for an inanimate object to kill someone unless that person collided against, or was hit by, or fell into it, or whatever. Something like a canal by itself does not kill you, it does not have a volition of its own.
Hope it helps.
Crazy, but way cool!
I think Maerwynn and Venice are cool! And maybe Blossom. (:
It happens frequently because in their (police) eyes the end justifies the means. No one polices the police (unless you count the "look the other way" potential when an entity polices it self).
European countries have ombudsmen whose job is to investigate citizen complaints against officials like police. The fact that this occupation doesn't exist in the US is not only indicative of the lack of necessary concern about police corruption but also opens the door for it.
Here's another way we know:
Police will tell us they confiscated "x" amt.and a later date they destroyed "y" amt. but we never see information that ledgers accountability. For all we know they're only destroying half of the drugs and the other half is back on the street. If they were proud of the accounting they would make that public.
Police risk their life every day. It's easy to see how some may feel they are under paid. The perqs are at their disposal.
Well, that's just having a friend who has a poor choice of words and is just self-centered. I have a friend like that but I never want to listen to him brag. You should just forgive her because what's worse than losing a friend just because she doesn't know how to stop bragging. When she brags, just ignore it. Just interact with her when you guys have something meaningful to talk about. Her bragging just might stop if you ignore it. Hope this helped!
"Inverted Pyramid" writing means that you start out with broad, generalized ideas, then continually refine and define your thoughts / story in more specific terms, ending with a powerful statement that was the point of your writing all along (so your story is shaped like an inverted pyramid).
It's not just for journalism, it's actually how I learned to write. That and the "Key Hole" method which is an inverted pyramid (start out in broad terms leading to your thesis statement) followed by a circle (body of work / evidence) followed by a right-side-up pyramid (re-statement of your thesis leading to broader interpretations / applications).
It's actually a very compelling way to write!
